History

Habitat for Humanity International was founded in the southern United States in 1976 by Millard Fuller and since has built more than 200,000 homes in over 92 countries.

Habitat for Humanity Canada was founded in 1985 and has 70 affiliates in all 10 provinces and territories. Over 1000 homes have been built in Canada. Former Governor General, The Right Honourable Ed Schreyer and his wife Lily are Patrons of Habitat for Humanity Canada and volunteer at the annual Ed Schreyer Work Project build every year.

Habitat for Humanity, Prince Edward-Hastings Affiliate was incorporated in 1995. Staffed strictly by volunteers and depending on donated funds and resources from local communities, the Affiliate has built three single family homes in Belleville, one single family home in Trenton by our Quinte West Chapter and through our Prince Edward County Chapter, a semi detached, two family home in Picton. In 2005, the eighth home, a semi-detached, went up in Bellevillle. Homes were built in 2007 and 2009 to bring the total to 10! The 11th home is under construction in Picton and plans are underway for the 2010 build.
